Programs
The Manufacturing Industrial Council is constantly working on programs that will benefit all Industrial Businesses and improve transportation issues in the Duwamish M&I center. We are currently working on the following programs:
Seattle First Program - A proactive program to retain and strengthen Seattle's Industrial Community. The program was designed by industrial business managers and owners. The goal of Seattle First is to provide practical problem-solving services for industrial businesses facing challenges with governmental regulations or relocations.
Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) - There is a shortage of skilled workers in the aerospace industry and as more
workers retire the trend is growing. In order to address this issue, in 2008, 3
million dollars was put into the Washington State budget to develop training
programs to instruct workers in the aerospace industry. AJAC was born out of this initiative to manage and facilitate the development and growth of the aerospace apprenticeship programs. The AJAC committee is comprised of industry employers, employees, and the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM). The training programs
will be in the form of the Washington State aerospace apprenticeship programs.
Green Industrial Business and Carrer Expo - A partnership between education, business and larbor to develope and implement a statewide green industrial technology cirriculum. The date for the expo is October 9th 2009.
King County Summer Youth Employment - Thanks to funding from the federal economic stimulus package approved by the U.S. Congress earlier this year, low-income, King County young people ages 16-24 will be eligible for PAID, short term, work experiences through King County's YouthSource program. King County's 2009 summer Youth Employment program builds on 2008 success by adding a 3-4 week internship at local industrial businesses. If you're willing to help get the word out that the kind of jobs at your company provide a family-wage career alternative to the kid willing to put in the time to get trained, then give the MIC a call. We'll work with you to arrange an internship that works for your situation. Erin Evetts is the coordinator at 206-762-2470 or eemic(at)qwestoffice.net.
